BCS standings: Bulls debut at No. 2

How's this for revelations: If the college football season ended today, USF would play Ohio State for the national championship. Bulls fans can thank the computers, as five of the six ratings systems used in compiling the BCS have the Bulls as the No. 1 team in the nation.

The first official BCS standings were released Sunday, and they show the Bulls ranked No. 2 in the standings, which combine two major polls with six computer ratings. USF is one spot behind Boston College in both polls -- the ESPN/USA Today coaches poll and the Harris poll -- but owns the computer side of the rankings, ahead of top-ranked Ohio State in five of the six calculations. Three of the six computer ratings don't even have the Buckeyes in the top five.

With six games remaining, the challenge is on the Bulls to hold their standing in the polls and not lose ground with the computers, despite playing a schedule that includes only one remaining ranked opponent. We'll have much more on the exciting new rankings later tonight ...

The important thing is winning the Big East for an automatic bid to a big money game. Trying to guess the necessary events for the BIG money game is too much at this point. Just beat the hell out of ALL our conference foes, especially: rutgaz, sissynatti and loserville.

GO BULLS!

Still trying to figure out what it takes to convince your boy Brian Landman they were are legit.. It seems no matter what goes down -- he won't budge.

Ohio State # 1 ?? what exactly does he see in Ohio State?

He has us # 3.

Troublesome Greg

Landman actually ranked Oklahoma ahead of USF. Oklahoma LOST to a bad Colorado team, yet they are # 2 in his mind? Is that guy an OU grad or something? The computer's don't have the bias that these incompetent voters have. Hence the reason Oklahoma and USC are rated so low by the computers. Whoever this Landman guy is needs to lose his voting rights. That is completely indefensible.

All in favor of the ending the season now and dragging OSU down to New Orleans and kick some buckeye butt!!

If not for the bias in the human polls (i.e. coaches and harris) where USF SHOULD be #2, we would be #1 in the BCS!!

Go Bulls . . . beat Rutgers!

Also, do we now need to beat the ever loving crap out of all of our opponents just to keep up in the human polls???

It is crasy ! I hear some remark about our schedule ... we have beaten two Top 20 BCS ranked teams.

OSU hasn't come close to what we have done. BC hasn't either. I expect them to lose.

Beat Rutgers !

Go BULLS !!!

I saw a few polls that had us at #7- that's completely inexcusable. No matter how you slice it, there is not a single justifiable reason to not put us #1. Ohio St. hasn't done anything yet. Adding to that, I think that running the table in the BEAST is pretty similar to that of the Big 10. Or that we play more road games. I'm pretty upset at the rankings right now- a lot of people showed their biases today.

it doesn't take a Ranked team to beat a Ranked team as most of the top 20 teams now have been beat by an UNRANKED team. Rutgers will be very tough at home... and watch...

MY Prediction...

for a pass from the NCAA's biggest rusher Ray Rice.. catching the defensive safety coming in too soon!

and I would like to see...

Leavitt adding a fullback or tackle in the backfield for a short yardage play...
to bust the Rutgers defense on a big 1st down or short TD run!! GO BULLS!

Greg.

You need to send this video over the Leavitt and the boys... Remind them that Ray Rice ran for like 225 yards last year. We can not lose this game.

We can't. Not with that jack off Chris Fowler in the both. We just can't. The guy doesnt respect us -- he hates on us constantly -- we just can't lose this game.

I wonder if this is a new NCAA record for a team to break into the top five. I can't imagine that there are many other programs that have been around for as short of time as USF and received so much attention. If the NCAA doesn't keep track of this fun fact, they should or at least create a new category because of the Bulls.

At this point in the season the polls mean NADA. Easy come, easy go.

Go Bulls!

From obscurity to getting votes for the #1 college football team in just 11 years.

Wow.

Wow again.

Someone pinch me.

GO BULLS!!!

Remember this, the votes of Landman and those in the newspaper biz don't mean squat in the BCS standings. The AP is not a part of it anymore. They told the BCS not to use their polls since they didn't want to be a deciding factor in the BCS race (whatever). The 2 human polls are the coaches, which is a joke since coaches don't get to watch a lot of games so they usually get the SID to do it, and the Harris Poll.

What are you talking about? I always fill out my poll forms.

Where is Cee!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I want to officially apologize to Grothe and our offense for doubting their ability to put up some points on the board!

There, I have said it.

I almost got in a fight with several idiots at the game. Anyway, it was worth it!

Yeah -- Where is Cee??

that is funny.

I always like the phrase "human polls." What else are you going to poll? Squirrels? The computer rankings aren't polls. The only polls are human polls. No need to say humans are involved.

Jimmy Johnson on Fox wouldn't put USF in the top 5 because he said they only played regional games and then mentioned a close game with ACU. He didn't mention the score against UCF, or the two wins against other ranked teams. I think some coaches are showing their prejudices toward past favorites over USF.

JJ hasn't paid attention to college ball since he bolted "Da U" for Dallas. FOX needs to get some other people who might know a bit about college football instead of telling Jimmy and Terry Bradshaw, "hey could you walk over to this set and just make something up off the top of your head when we publish these ratings."

First of all, Jimmy Johnson is still a resident the Keys and maintains close relationships with officials and supporters of the University of Miami, especially those in the local sports media. He is their only national sounding board, as well as fat hank, and has no problem promoting their interests/feelings. NO one in the Dade and Broward media really wants to hype the Bulls in a positive manner, it's always hurrishame, gayterds and 'holes. They shamelessly try to minimize the accomplishments of USF and are salivating for a loss to proclaim any inability to handle the pressure.

I hope our Bulls make them say the "BIG FOUR" real soon, it would be music to my ears.

GO BULLS!

I know its early, but USF Nation can now reserve seats for a BCS Game or (yes I will say it) the National Championship Game. I reserved 4 already!! When the BULLS win on Thursday I might go for the max 10!!!

Go Bulls

USF fans need to buy Bowl tickets through USF when the announcement is made (whatever Bowl it may be). Buying tickets through Ticketmaster and other sites will not help the reputation USF needs to build which is taht our fanbase travels well and supports the team.

Be glad of the #2 ranking and rejoice that Ohio State is #1.

I for one hope that nothing changes here until the final poll and that the Bulls go into the NC game as a 40-point underdog.

The Bulls ought to be able to take down an obviously overrated OSU in New Orleans for the NC on a neutral field - I have my doubts whether they could do the same against LSU on what would essentially be their home turf.

If both OSU and USF win out, they should play for the NC, and OSU will get slapped silly two years in a row by the best team in Florida (which, by definition, is the best team in the country!)

Go Buckeyes! (LOL)

Go Bulls!

Great point Sanjay!

Sanjay, to reserve BCS tickets, you only get the tickets if your school gets in. So it is tracked as USF support. Check it out on BCS website!!

Kristen- care to back that up with some evidence? Oh wait, there isn't any to support that. Face it- of all the unbeatens, no one comes close to having as tough of a schedule as us.

BTW- The toughest non-conference scheduler is FAU. We should give them a lot of credit for taking on anyone and everyone.
