Selvie a finalist for Hendricks Award

USF sophomore defensive end George Selvie, leading the nation in tackles for loss and ranking second in sack, is one of eight finalists for the Ted Hendricks Defensive End of the Year Award.

Selvie, who will be in Charlotte this weekend as one of five finalists for the Nagurski Trophy, is the only Big East player among the eight Hendricks finalists. That award will be given out Dec. 5.

Good for him!

Hey Greg, I know you aren't a travel agent, but any insight on where the Bulls are staying in El Paso and what is closeby hotel-wise to the Sun Bowl?

That's awesome! I still don't understand how he isn't up for more awards.

If I hear ONE more ESPN commentator calling him "SALvie", I will shoot my TV, Elvis style.

I predict that Chris Long will finish ahead of him, but that Selvie will be in the top 3.

I live outside of El Paso and the Sun Bowl is a pretty good bowl and family tradition for 15 of us.

A few tips for you travelers.
- If you stay in Downtown El Paso (Paso del Norte Hotel), you can walk to downtown Juarez. Passports won't be needed until 1/1/08.
- Hiking & Biking the Franklin mountains
- Skiing? Ruidoso, NM is only 1.5 hours away. Southern most skiing resort in the US.
- White Sands National Monument is on the way to Ruidoso
- Carlsbad Caverns are 2.5 hours away

Hope this helps.
See you at the game. Go Bulls!

Traveling Sam,
The Bowl teams usually stay at the Airport Wyndham and Airport Marriot.

The Wyndham is only 100 yds from the Airport.
If you get in late. Just walk across and check in. The next morning, walk back to the airport and get your rental or drop off your rental a day early. I'm not kidding when I say 100 yds.

There is a new hotel on the UTEP campus and is a 1/2 mile from the stadium.
I just can't remember the name of the hotel!

Good luck.

Ive got an off topic question about recruiting, we already have 18 commits i was wondering how many we are allowed, i thought it was 25, and if all the spots fill up but a better rated player wants to commit can they be replaced by removing a lower ranked player, i dont kno how it all works, i just think it will suck if we end up having alot of good people want to come here while we allowed not so highly rated people to fill up the openings

Former Florida and Jefferson TE Trent Pupello will transfer to the University of South Florida, his father Joe Pupello said.
Greg you are slipping. I love this blog but want to be updated when the news hits.

JR, You can have 25 scholarships in any one year and no more than 85. You can expect that some of the kids will not qualify (wish it weren't true, but history says it will be). We are at 18, so I think we could expect another 10-12, for a total of around 28-30 on signing day with several to miss out no qualifying. Also, grayshirting is a posisbility as well.
I know the usual yahoos will chime in, so for information sake, kids who sign but do not qualify do not affect the school APR, nor do they count against the school. Most of the nonqualifiers go to JUCO or retake entrance exams and we have had several re-sign with USF after a year or two.

is this the same sanjay posting who was an American Idol finalist?

sanjay, do you see in the newest post how it says only 25 players allowed? that is what i was talking about, it says we are only allowed to how 25 recruits, wich would leave us with only 7 more sports...

JR you are assuming all 25 qualify for admissions. That will not be the case if prior history is any guide.

Mike, sorry to hear I'm slipping.

On the scholarship limitations, here's the deal: No school can add more than 25 initial scholarships in a given year. USF only had 24 this past year, so one of the four in January can roll back to that class.

The more restrictive number for USF right now is the 85 total scholarships; USF was at 81 this fall and has only 15 scholarship seniors graduating (potentially 14 if jared carnes gets another year). That would leave 19 scholarships available for this incoming class, including the four arriving in January. USF is banking on some standard off-season attrition, with underclassmen transferring out for more playing time at smaller schools, etc. ...

Again, sorry to be slipping.

Well that kinda sucks that we are already almost full on recruits when we have alot of great ones looking at our school, how do you think that situation will be handled?
