USF soccer upsets Akron in double OT
After more than 100 minutes of scoreless soccer, USF has pulled off a significant road victory, edging 14th-seeded Akron 1-0 on Wednesday night to advance to the round of 16 in the NCAA championships. The Bulls haven't won multiple games in the NCAAs since 1997 and now get a third shot at third-seeded Connecticut this weekend.
Forty-five seconds into the second overtime, Yohance Marshall scored off a free kick from Simon Schoendorf, who entered the game ranked second in the nation in assists per game.

Times sportswriter Greg Auman, who covers USF, will post news and thoughts on the Bulletin and we invite your participation in the comments area.
Who made this bracket? We are playing UCONN for the what 4th time this season?

To be the best, you gotta beat the best. Eventually we'd run into a powerhouse. The games are won and lost on the field, not in the brackets. And its the 3rd time we'll be playing them, not the 4th.

My roommate at USF played on the 1997 team that went to the sweet 16.
I think they lost to St. Johns that year.
Uconn is a beast. Should be a good game.
Wondering if Catch 47 has any chance of picking it up.

Thanks Greg, most ignore soccer but this is huge for USF.

I actually worked with that 1997 team. We beat FIU in the first round and then beat defending champion St. John's in the second round before losing at Indiana on a field covered in snow. It was a great run and I am proud of the Bulls for making it this far. UConn has it coming from us and I hope we pull out the win. With all the upsets going on in the tournament there is a good shot of USF making the College Cup in Cary, NC if they beat UConn. Go Bulls!!!
