Freshman Edenfield no longer with Bulls
Was at the beach for a few hours, so I'm a little late with this, but USF sent out an e-mail this afternoon saying that freshman offensive tackle Thomas Edenfield, who was held out of USF's spring practice so he could focus on classwork, is no longer part of the Bulls football program.
Edenfield, one of the state's top offensive line prospects a year ago out of Jacksonville's Bartram Trail High School, redshirted his only season at USF. Leavitt said he's likely to attend a junior college next season. He's the ninth scholarship player to leave the Bulls since December, though the first on the offensive side of the ball.
Just last week, I'd talked with Edenfield's coach at Bartram Trail, and he'd been encouraged by a conversation he had with Edenfield about his academic progress and was thankful that Leavitt had given him the spring off to focus on his academics. On the whole, this isn't a surprising development, though it reinforces the idea that offensive tackle may be the thinnest position on USF's roster.
I would have said this was very likely before Edenfield's departure, but I wouldn't be surprised at all if walk-on Jake Sims, the rising sophomore who is currently atop the depth chart at right tackle, is put on scholarship this fall. USF can sign a full class of 25 players and will still have scholarships available out of the maximum 85, and a walk-on who has been in the program two years -- like Sims -- won't count against the 25 initial scholarships allowed each year. The Bulls will get a solid freshman this fall in Plant City's Mark Popek, but look for offensive tackle to be a major focus in recruiting next year.

Times sportswriter Greg Auman, who covers USF, will post news and thoughts on the Bulletin and we invite your participation in the comments area.
Ahh man, the tail tapper is gone?

I understand making the transition to college can be difficult, especially for collegiate atheletes, but what a great opportunity this kid wasted. I just hope we luck out this year in terms of oline health.

M...M...Momma says if I can maintain eligibility at the college level, anyone can!
Maybe Edenfield would like to take over the H2O duties.

This is what you get when you give schoarships to kids that barely get out of high school. Nine players gone, how is that going to count towards the APR. It is not if USF loses scholarships due to the APR, but when.

GA - off topic, but have you heard anything about Richard Clebert getting picked up by an NFL team?
I am pretty suprised no one has jumped to give a guy with good numbers in the combine-type stuff a shot.

I've been checking with Clebert's agent, and there's hasn't been anything to report. I'll continue to check with him, but I don't know that he'll have options on the NFL level.

You know how hard it is to fail out of USF..
You really have to work at it. I am talking flat out not going to class and not turning in school work. Even Herman managed to get through USF in just under seven years.
You know what they say Herman.."Lots of people go to college for seven years....they are called doctors."
Posted by: Mr. Ari Hinkelberger | April 29, 2008 at 01:01 PM
He should have attended FSU if he didn't want to do ANY work.
Never underestimate the predictability of stupidity.

Wow good to see Reuben Horowitz come out of the wood works. Obviously because Ari creamed himself and forwarded his blog message here to our emails.
No doubt my college life was more about "experiences" than education but I turned out fine. I majored in just about everything and never failed or earned a grade less than a C. I really didnt do much work and cant see how someone will average intelligence cannot cut it in the College of Education or Criminology. I mean C's get degrees my friends and ultimately thats all you may need, especially athletes. I did get a double F though and will always be remembered for it by my friends. Marquel Blackwell was sitting next to me and was in my group when I got caught with a cheat sheet, he was helping in my defense for he teacher to let it go, but she hated me because I tend to be opinionated and not in her favor. Oh well, I switched majors and it took me FIVE years instead of four to graduate. Ari didnt we graduate the same year and you are like 2 years older than me??
Also, Ari i read you write on this blog about how you rolled around with a 110 lbs girl sophmore year. Just because you imagined your shampoo bottle was a blonde girl, doesnt mean it was. Greg sorry to pollute your board but I have to set the record straight. Ari is the real life 30 year old virgin.

For what its worth,
Me and Herman took a class together and he got an A and I got a B. The name of the class was "Life In the Big House." It was an elective in our Criminology class work. I did my end of the year presentation on Angloa Prison. I think I put that deal together about 45 mins before class. I went down to Blockbuster and rented "Life on the Farm. The story of Angola Prison." All I did was run the movie for 10 mins and describe the scenes. I can't believe that passed the smell test. Needless to say, I got a B in "Life in the Big House." Dr. Arvonio taught the class.
If you couldn't pass that puppy, you needed to reconsider this "college" thing.
So in the end, the one class I took with Herman, he got an "A" and I got a "B." So if Herman and Ari can get through USF, anybody can get through USF.

We are all dumber for having read this message string. I award Ari and Herman no points, and may God have mercy on their souls.
(It's still Sandler, so it counts. What baffled me was the Harry Doyle reference. Appreciated, but doesn't quite fit).

True love is hard to find.
Sometimes you think you have true love and then you catch the early flight home from San Diego and a couple of nude people jump out of your bathroom blindfolded like a goddang magic show ready to double team your girlfriend.

USF smacked UCF in baseball 14-6. I bet they wish they could stay within a touchdown in football. Bulls lead season series 2-1.

Greg, need to do more baseball stories! That team is playing good ball these days.

Thank you!!!! For the love of god thank you!!! JoeB you are absolutely right. It is so refreshing that someone finally agrees with me. I have been pleading for an update on Smith but for some reason Greg wont even admit we have a baseball team. We get ten pages about some crappy basketball recruit from across the ocean that noone ever heard of but nothing about our the states best freshman Ryan Lockwood who is on a 27 game hit streak by the way, or about Stephen Hunt and Shawn Sanford who both earned BE honors. What does our baseball team have to doto get some recognition on here.
Posted by: jarred | April 30, 2008 at 12:51 AM
sorry to tell you but its not only usf fans who dont give one single crap about COLLEGE baseball its all fans. I know average players that can play for usf. If you are any good in baseball you go right to the minors.

ok who controls the conch?
Posted by: 702JV | April 30, 2008 at 01:38 AM
I agree that college baseball does not have near the fans that football or basketball does. I will also admit that I enjoy football more than baseball, but trust me there are plenty of baseball fans out there, at least way more then tennis, soccer, softball, or womens basketball which all get mentions on here. Im not asking for a post per day or anything, all i want is for when something noteworthy happens, like Maruzak's multi-homer game saturday, Lockwood's hitting streak, Smith's season ending injury, or the BE honors that several of our players earned, that it gets a nod.
Posted by: jarred | April 30, 2008 at 01:39 AM
Harry Doyle's best line was talking about the Yankees player and saying "He's a convicted felon, right Marty?" and Marty says "I don't see that in here" and then Uecker/Doyle says "Well, he should be"
And Herm, you get a few points for such a disturbing notion.
And Lockwood has been great.

What does everyone think about the three free agent Bulls in mini-camp with the Bucs. Jackson played great at times, and the two linemen are huge. Bucs have several O-line free agents right now. Could be a nice "find" or two for the Bucs.
