Jaguars draft Williams in fifth round
As much as we've praised the NFL for shortening the length of its draft this weekend, it didn't feel that way for former USF cornerback Trae Williams. After hours of watching and waiting, Williams got the call he was waiting for, getting drafted in the fifth round by the Jacksonville Jaguars.
Williams was nice enough to let me watch the draft with him Sunday, and it was a tense few hours, watching from a room at the Embassy Suites near USF, with dozens of family members hoping and praying to hear Williams' name. I think you'll see a very motivated cornerback this fall, eager to prove he is better than many of the cornerbacks picked ahead of him. At the same time, he's very thankful for the opportunity he has, for the chance to play close to home and his family in Plant City, for being the first cornerback drafted to a solid Jaguars defense.
Lots more to come, but congrats to Williams, and check back for more updates tonight ...

Times sportswriter Greg Auman, who covers USF, will post news and thoughts on the Bulletin and we invite your participation in the comments area.
Drove right by the draft party on my way to Busch Gardens this morning, as we cut thru USF to go straight down McKinley. I know that's not blog worthy note, just my way of saying "FIRST"...

Good luck to Trae and Mike. I know both players will do well in the league and make USF proud. Also, enhancing the value of future Bulls for years to come. Show all the other teams they made a mistake by passing on you Trae and do the same with the Jags at mimicamp. I wouldn't be surprised if he was their nickel or dime back come this fall. He's that good.

As a huge Jaguars fan, I am extremely happy for Trae. I know he will prove himself on the field and make all those teams that passed on him look stupid.

Good for Williams. I wish he'd been higher, but if that helps motivate him a little more to prove his worth, all the better.

AGW you might not have a reason to be excited if the name of the JC center is Alex Rivas-Sanchez.In fact you might feel the opposite.
