Tackle Watson joins Giants for tryout

Former USF tackle Thed Watson is participating in the New York Giants' rookie minicamp, but he hasn't signed a free-agent contract. Newsday reported Friday that Watson is one of 36 players invited to try out at the minicamp along with the Giants' draft picks and rookie free agents.

As we learned last week with the Bucs, participating in the tryout and landing a contract are two different accomplishments. It's not to say Watson can't earn a contract this weekend, but only a handful of tryout players typically make it back for the team's summer OTAs. We'll check back on the Giants after the weekend ...

-- Big day for USF baseball, as the Bulls' game Friday at St. John's was rained out and moved into a doubleheader today. Same for the Rutgers-Villanova game, featuring two games one game behind the Bulls in the Big East standings. That's a big four games toward USF's postseason fate this afternoon -- we'll get in an update on the standings tonight.
