Plenty of links before the week begins ...

There are a few fun things I'll be chasing down as the week starts up, but first I wanted to get out a bunch of links I've accumulated over the weekend. It really should be getting to be a slow time for USF news, but there's still enough loose ends to keep things going. On with the linkage ...

-- Did Kentrell Gransberry help himself at the NBA pre-draft camp in Orlando? His hometown paper, the Advocate in Baton Rouge, La., has a solid story on him, complete with quotes from Stan Heath and his high school coach.

-- Good story from correspondent Joel Poiley on Riverview lefty Anthony Ferrara, a USF signee who's likely to be picked somewhere in the first six rounds or so in Friday's major-league baseball draft.

-- I've scanned the rosters of seven -- seven! -- collegiate summer baseball leagues, and found five Bulls are playing Valley League Baseball in Virginia. Four are with the Luray Wranglers -- outfielder Chris Rey, catcher Cory Johnson, righty Andrew Salgueiro (who sat out this season after transferring from Louisville) and signee Pete Brotons, an infielder from Daytona Beach Community College. Freshman catcher Andrew Longley, who redshirted this season, is with the Covington Lumberjacks, and former USF player Ryan Soares, now at George Mason, is with the Haymarket Senators.

Blog regular Myron Daniel, always good for baseball news, points me to the Coastal Plain League, where four more Bulls are playing. Freshman Lefty/first baseman Stephen Hunt, sophomore infielder Victor Pina and freshman right-hander Kevin Quackenbusch are with the Fayetteville Swampdogs, while freshman infielder Jordan McGillis, who redshirted this season, is with the Wilmington Sharks. You've got to like a league with a little sense of humor, as one of its teams is the Columbia Blowfish.

-- We've been posting updates on USF baseball signees, so it's worth mentioning that outfielder Jay Taylor, 18, of Seminole was arrested last month and accused of having consensual sex with a minor, a 15-year-old girl. Officially, he faces a felony charge of "lewd and lascivious battery on a child," though the state attorney's office has not yet made the decision to pursue charges. USF has declined to comment.

-- The Orlando Sentinel has a two-minute interview with Hillsborough Community College's Keith Brumbaugh from the predraft camp. Nobody's written more from Orlando than Foxsports.com's Jeff Goodman, who has Brumbaugh at No. 1 on his list of players who hurt themselves at the camp, writing that he "looked out of his element."

-- There's a remarkable number of coaches in college football with ties to Oklahoma's Bob Stoops. A column in the Tulsa World mentioned his good friend and colleague, Jim Leavitt, among a slew of Stoops associates in the coaching ranks.

-- How do we know it's getting to be the slow summer season? The Sentinel trots out the tried-and-true "Here's a Guy For Every Jersey Number" feature, always a good conversation piece. This one pools from any athlete with Florida ties, and who gets No. 95? USF's own George Selvie. Former USF assistant Calvin Magee is No. 86, and who doesn't think of No. 91 without thinking of ... Tim Spooneybarger.

That's the wonderful laws we have in Florida to "protect" children.

If the DA does press charges, he'll be a felony sex predator for the rest of his life and be lucky to work at McDonald's.
