Former Bulls OT Kenyatta Jones arrested again
Couple of things to catch up on, not the least of which is former USF tackle Kenyatta Jones turning himself in to Tampa police on Wednesday afternoon on three felony drug charges relating to the purchase of cocaine and marijuana. Jones, still on roster with the Tampa Bay Storm after a previous arrest in March, is in jail on $45,000 bond, his off-field problems continuing to overshadow his on-field exploits. That goes back to his NFL days, as you'll read in this Washington Post story.
-- Good story from Ryan Boyd in the Bradenton Herald, writing about how the next step in Matt Grothe's maturation as a quarterback is to eliminate the turnovers that have limited his success in his first two seasons.
-- The Times' Joey Knight has a follow-up on quarterback Alton Voss' decision not to play football this fall, talking to coaches and family members about a talented high school star who has lost his desire to play football. Voss is considering enrolling at St. Petersburg College, something that would have ramifications for USF's Academic Progress Rate scores. If Voss simply left the team in good academic standing and continued as a student at USF, there would be no APR penalties.
-- Former USF cornerback Mike Jenkins remains unsigned as the Dallas Cowboys arrive in California today to open preseason camp. The Dallas Morning News reports that Jenkins and fellow first-round draft pick Felix Jones are both represented by agent Eugene Parker, who continues to negotiate with the Cowboys; Dallas' second-round pick is also still unsigned.

Times sportswriter Greg Auman, who covers USF, will post news and thoughts on the Bulletin and we invite your participation in the comments area.
Poor Alton. He has been beaten down. Go play football at another school that actually wants you to play QB and you will be fine. SPC is the ticket to getting to another university. APR be damned. Since USF has a history of getting rid of players that arent of help to the team anymore, why not look out for #1 and do what is right for you Alton!

PS Kenyatta Jones in my humble opinion is a bad person and should just be put in jail for life. Enough chances already. Who is going to be his next victim?

It's hard to believe about Kenyatta. In school he always seemed like a nice guy. I guess people change. I saw where Kenny Kelly was just arrested too.

KJ... Hang in there buddy. The world is stacked against you from some bad lapses in judgement you have recently made. I know you're a stronger person than this. You were a great teammate and a team leader on the field. The bad press is tough due to the subsequent drug charges - you did the crime, and now things will be really be rough on you. You have a big heart and those of us that know you can vouch for you and know you will straighten up.
Too bad the Washington Post didn't get all their facts right. You may have gotten charged with possession of a firearm, but in reality, you took the gun from a former teammate who was a few cards short of a full deck. At the same time, you got charged for the crime... but you also saved someone from making a life altering mistake (and we know he would have used that gun that night).
Hang in there good buddy. A lot of people want the best for you. You will get another chance... please make the best of it. I want to see you supporting the Green and Gold someday in the future.

How many "chances" does he deserve? OK the gun incident might have been a good cause, but scalding your friend seems like a pretty harsh prank. Obviously he still hangs with the wrong crowd and will only get worse in life if he doesn't change things. He will have to do this on his own. Good luck to him, but it will be difficult.

Maybe this will be posted on that joke of a website, usfscandel.com. If it does make it, it won't be for another year on that site.
