You guys are so good about pointing me to cool things I don't notice myself, so I want to thank all of you who have sent great tips and links for the greater good of the blog. Case in point ...
Bodoglife.com, an Antigua-based gambling site, has issued odds on individual players winning the Heisman Trophy this season. Yes, USF quarterback Matt Grothe is one of 45 players honored with a line of their own: 50-to-1, the site says, which is (oddly) better odds than USF, which gets 75-to-1 odds on winning a national championship from the same site (FSU is 50-1, Miami 60-1).
The Heisman favorite, predictably, is Florida quarterback Tim Tebow, last year's winner, who has 7-2 odds. Ohio State's Beanie Wells is 5-1, Missouri's Chase Daniel is 6-1, and Georgia's Knowshon Moreno is 8-1. Big East players? West Virginia's Pat White is 10-1, Pitt's LeSean McCoy is a bit high at 22-1, and West Virginia's Noel Devine has better odds than Grothe at 30-1. In all, Grothe winds up tied for 25th-best odds, which shouldn't be taken as a slight. For Grothe to really be a Heisman candidate, he probably needs USF to be undefeated, at least going into the West Virginia game.
The site also has Big East odds, with West Virginia so heavily favored they list at 1:1, an even-money bet. USF is next at 5-2, followed by Pittsburgh (3-1), Rutgers (6-1), Cincinnati (7-1), Connecticut (12-1), Louisville (14-1) and Syracuse, respectfully at 40-1.

Times sportswriter Greg Auman, who covers USF, will post news and thoughts on the Bulletin and we invite your participation in the comments area.
howard smellyberger can't talk
hey howard when your team actually beats a real football team, then we'll talk
Your team still has a hard time beating teams like Tulsa and Southern Mississippi state
You're just making a fool of yourself

I don't want to lose the $100, Greg, but for a shot at $7500!

The Heisman would return only 50:1 according to Greg's info yet seems far less likely than our winning the NC--not that that's likely but 75:1?

go ahead and waste you money on this bet, you degenerate USF fans. No way Grothey should even be mentioned in the same sentence as Heisman. You should spend your money on bail to get your players out of jail. You know there going to get arrested AGAIN! Can't wait til we destroy your season at THE BH! GO KNIGHTS!!!

Ken, if $100 is a small loss, let me send you my address ...

Grothe is the reason we have risen so quickly. He also has a lot of room for improvement. Like for any QB coming into his third year, turnovers are key. I'm expecting a 2-1 TD-INT ratio and over 65% completion rate from Grothe. If he can do that, we'll win 10 games, for sure.

I like our chances of going undefeated, at least into a BCS or even NC game, better than I do MG winning the Heisman. Besides USF having a great year, MG would have to have a really great year, and at least some of those other guys would have to stumble significantly (injuries, etc.).
But, what do you think of 75:1 on USF to win it all--$100 would be a small loss and $7500 a significant gain.

Matt Grothe rhymes with Heisman Trophy.

Matt throws too many int and not enough tds. That being said undefeated going into WVU and 20 tds to 5 ints and he would merit consideration.

For the life of me, I'll never understand the hatred some have on here for Grothe. All he's done is take this program to the next level on the field and in the national eye.
Do you all not remember the Ronnie Banks/Pat Julmiste days? They weren't all that long ago.
Playmakers make plays and take risks. It's part of his game." Puzzled
I like having Grothe at helm, but Matt isn't a Heisman Trophy caliber player.

Yes, Grothe is a program builder, but the guy doesn't read defenses well. He stares down his wrs, never looks off, and never stays in the pocket when pressure is coming off the end. Grothe should be good friends with Cedric Hill, but he never notices that this guy is constantly open. I understand that his running game is a strength, but it would be nice if he could consistently make good reads.

USF will defintiely have to go undefeated for Grothe to even be considered a serious choice at presentation. I feel he can get away with interceptioins as long as his other production areas make up for that nasty negative.

Just wanted let you and all the readers know, even though I'm sure you already did. GREEN OUT game is going to be the September 12 match up with Kansas.

If they gave the Heisman to the guy who threw the most interceptions, Grothe's chances would be better. Even considering Grothe a "Heisman Candidate" is a joke.
