Talk about adding insult to injury -- USF quarterback Matt Grothe wore a boot on his left foot after Saturday's 49-16 loss to Rutgers, saying he had sprained his ankle but expects to play in next week's final home game against Connecticut.
Grothe, who walked into the interview room after the game but left the area in a golf cart, said his ankle was "twisted backwards" on a rollout in the fourth quarter. USF sent backup Grant Gregory in for its final possession.
"I'll be all right," Grothe said. "I played the rest of the series, but he didn't want me to get more hurt."
Grothe hasn't missed a game in his three season as USF's starting quarterback, starting USF's past 35 games.

Times sportswriter Greg Auman, who covers USF, will post news and thoughts on the Bulletin and we invite your participation in the comments area.
What did Grothe say about Pres-elect Obama?

Im sick of Grothe.... last week he posted a comment about our president-elect.... that didnt go over with me a many others on facebook... and lately he has played the worst football of his career... maybe it would be best if he didnt play this next game

SailingBull, you're right about the FIU game. Not only did Bulls play a terrible game and nearly lost, they had big injuries that game and they seemed to have been unable to regroup since. Just shows you what a lack of depth USF has this year. Remember when the two OL played last game and Leavitt said he should not have played them. Well, it speaks volumes when seriously injured players are better than their healthy backups!

NovaBullFan, Daniels is injured and USF is trying to get him a medical redshirt so he gains an extra year. Since this season is shot, best if they don't play him and see if he can receive a redshirt exemption giving him 4 more yrs at USF. Since next season is a rebuilding year, Daniels needs to be starter next year for needed experience in 2010-2012.

This season was over the minute Mompremier was airlifted off the FIU field. How many of our starters did we loose to injury that day? How many ankle injuries have we had this year? What gives? Is it the Under Armor shoes?

It appears he has missed a number of English classes along the way.

I hope the kid well health wise but he is not anything what he was 2 years ago. The team has given up on him, he made some horrible throws today. It's time to let Gregory take the snaps the last two games or if we aren't redshirting BJ let him play to get ready for next year. I think all Grothe cares about is when the next time he's going Hunting or Fishing.
