USF's men's soccer team has defeated St. John's 1-0 in overtime at USF Soccer Stadium to win the Big East championship -- just the third Bulls team to accomplish the feat.
After finishing regulation scoreless, the two teams went to a 10-minute overtime, and the winning goal came with four minutes remaining from freshman Sebastien Thuriere, a Seminole graduate, with an assist from Jordan Seabrook. The Bulls remain undefeated on their home field after rallying to beat Notre Dame 2-1 in Friday's semifinal.
All three goals this weekend came from Bulls who hadn't scored in Big Easty play during the regular season -- junior Francisco Aristeguieta had his first two against Notre Dame, and Thuriere's goal was his first in conference play.
It's only the second Big East tournament title for USF, which got its first from women's tennis in 2007. Softball won a regular-season Big East crown this spring.

Times sportswriter Greg Auman, who covers USF, will post news and thoughts on the Bulletin and we invite your participation in the comments area.
For the record, soccer rules.
Go Bulls!

Thanks for answering. I was aware that UF didn't have a men's team... I was just surprised that a traditional SEC team was competing in CUSA. I didn't recall Kentucky competing against us back when we were in CUSA in olympic sports.

South Carolina and Kentucky both compete in C-USA in men's soccer since the SEC doesn't sponsor the sport.

Terry, Florida doesn't have a men's soccer team, and the SEC doesn't have men's soccer as a sport. Strange, in that C-USA has both Kentucky and FIU in their men's soccer standings, and the C-USA women's standings include ... Colorado College. Odd.

Congratulations to Coach Kiefer and the USF men's soccer team who've proven that you can win Big East Championships AND have the best GPA of any men's team on campus. Class acts!

Hey... I hate soccer as much as the next guy, but let's let the team enjoy the blog post without a proliferation of football comments. Those guys worked their tails off to win that championship today. It's finally nice putting faces together with names after catching most of the game. Good luck guys... you proved you are among the nation's elite... good luck running the table in the NCAA tourney. Bulls alum worldwide are pulling for you!

Congrats Keiffer and the rest of the men's team for your first Big East title. Must say the road to the championship was as tough as winning a Big East basketball title. To knock off Notre Dame and St. John's back to back is pretty darn impressive.

Our soccer team could also beat our football team in the game of football right now.

Steve... I was watching it on TV... Although I'll be honest. I fell asleep with 20 minutes left in the second half and woke up just in time to see the Jermaine Taylor/Jeff Lacy fight from last night that I miss. Thanks to the internet, I was able to get the score from www.thebullspen.com because they were playing the CUSA Championship game at that point.
Hey GA... how many SEC schools play in CUSA for soccer and other Olympic sports? When I saw Kentucky playing Tulane, I had to do a double take. Does your alma mater compete in any conference other than the SEC for a non-SEC sport?

It was still awesome to watch too.

Awesome! Congrats!
Maybe the football team should have gone and taken notes to learn how to finish a season...

Does USF Men's Soccer Red Divison title a few years ago not qualify as a big east championship since the Big East doesnt award an overall regular season championship in Men's Soccer?
