Defensive end George Selvie and linebacker Tyrone McKenzie represented USF as first-team selection to the Big East's all-conference team, with four teammates earning second-team honors.
Selvie, last year's Big East Defensive Player of the Year, saw that honor go to Pittsburgh linebacker Scott McKillop, with Connecticut running back Donald Brown getting the offensive nod and Cincinnati's Mardy Gilyard honored as the league's top special-teams player. Cincinnati's Brian Kelly repeated as the league's coach of the year.
Guard Matt Huners, tackle Marc Dile, tight end Cedric Hill and safety Carlton Williams, all seniors, made the all-conference second team. McKenzie was one of six unanimous first-team selections.

Times sportswriter Greg Auman, who covers USF, will post news and thoughts on the Bulletin and we invite your participation in the comments area.
And I meant DT, too. I understood we were talking about defense. Thanks.

That last part, I meant to say "in basketball" ...

Ken, I meant the only defensive tackle. There might be tackles who got shafted, but in doing so they got less votes from coaches than the third-best end.
It's kind of like the all-conference teams -- do you insist on two guards, two forwards and a center? Sometimes the second-best center might be worlds better than the second-best forward ...

"Syracuse's Arthur Jones as the only tackle."
Interesting. Are there coaches who think their OTs got shafted?

Congrats to these players, well deserved. I am actually slightly suprised that Mike Teel did not get 2nd team. Pike from UC was deserving of his selection, I'm not saying that, but during the second half of the season, Teel played great. I'm glad to see that as well because it seemed like that kid always took a lot of heat from their fans, especially early in the year, but he had a fine season. Tops in BE in pass efficiency as well as leading the league in td passes. He can really throw the deep posts and streaks well.

That is crazy the George was not a unanimous selection. Ask the coaches what happened whenever they decided not to double him.
I am also surprised Huners and Dile made the second team. Grothe had very little time the second alf of the season and the running backs had zero holes.

Selvie needs to stay for his final year to convince whoever didn't vote for him.

Selvie was not unanimous. And had the league picked two ends and two tackles on defense, I'm not sure what would have happened. The league has two ends -- Connecticut's Cody Brown and Cincinnati's Connor Barwin -- who finished with more than 10 sacks, though neither faced the attention from opposing offenses that Selvie did this season. So the league's all-conference team has three ends, with Syracuse's Arthur Jones as the only tackle.

Just so I'm clear, Selvie wasn't unanimous?
