One of USF's most successful NFL players is giving back to the Bulls. Cowboys cornerback Anthony Henry, who played during USF's first four seasons of college football, has made a $100,000 donation to USF football.
Henry's donation -- believed to be the largest ever by a Bulls football player -- will be used to help USF upgrade the locker room, weight room and other areas of the school's athletic facility.
Henry, who just finished his eighth NFL season, is entering the final year of a five-year, $25 million contract he signed with Dallas in 2005. He started all but one game for the Cowboys this season.
Henry is in town for Sunday's Super Bowl, and here is a pic from the Times' Daniel Wallace of Henry competing in Terrell Owens' charity basketball game.
-- Also, here's a feature story in Sunday's Times on defensive end Demi Thompson of Lake Mary, who will be part of USF's recruiting class when he signs with the Bulls on Wednesday. The defensive ends in USF's class are ranked as the nation's second-best at the position, according to Rivals.com. Oh, and after you read the story, here's a link to the blog his father Joseph keeps at The Church at the Wall, where he is senior pastor.

Times sportswriter Greg Auman, who covers USF, will post news and thoughts on the Bulletin and we invite your participation in the comments area.
R Todd,
Don't pro football players spend extravegantly on self-endulgent wastefull things too?
Wasn't it mentioned on here that Mike Jenkins was driving an Escalade with "white wheels"?
Why should a "Wall St" whiz donate to USF football if he doesn't give a hoot about college football?
Do you contribute to the Arts at USF? How about the Med School or Women's basketball?

Al,
Reading the papers and the web you see case after case of wall street spending extravegance on self-endulgent wastefull things. $2,000 a night hotels, $500 bottles of wine $2,500 shower curtains etc etc etc. I know the CFO at RJF gives back big time to the school but how many other 100k donations do we get ? Last I checked everyone that graduates from USF is an alumi and when the football program started alot of folks stepped up. In these times I think giving back to your University is a great thing. Let me know the next time a corporate guy steps up and puts in a 100k and I will cheer them to. Just to few that I see.

Alice, You don't comprehend what others are posting? That is still no reason to argue and be a DUMAZZ! I guess it does explain why your views are so ignorant.

Anthony Henry has always been a classy guy. Thank you for the donation. Al, there are people that have earned their degrees at USF and gone on to be successful in the corporate world. Maybe that is what Terry was talking about. Many of these people do make large donations already. Maybe he's saying they should just be classy, like Anthony. Anyway, just another example of you questioning or ridiculing someone for no reason. Maybe you should take a lesson from Anthony and learn some class. I doubt it, Alice the Clown! GO BULLS!

Thanks, Anthony! It's always good to see an NFL player give back to the program that allowed him to be where he is now.

On behalf of USF alumni everywhere, thank you Anthony for helping our University continue to improve!

Would be interesting, Greg, to follow up on that and find out what it actually gets spent on. It would have to be spent on stuff, not salaries, as the later would require he keep donating that amount plus COL every year to cover it.

Nice.
Well done, sir.

Greg I understand that......still doesn't make sense.....but thanks to Mr. Henry.

John, I think it's more a case of adding things within the facility, not the physical structure itself.
Posted by: Greg Auman | February 01, 2009 at 12:50 PM
It would be nice to use it to upgrade the coaching staff.
Posted by: Al | February 01, 2009 at 12:39 PM
Donation will be used to upgrade area of the athletic facility? That thing was built only a few years ago.....

Very nice to see Anthony Henry not forgetting where he came from. Thank you!
G.A., do you know of any other former USF players who have made donations?

Thanks ANT! Nice to have a great bull represent us in the NFL and give back to the school that got him there.

Anthony Henry continues to help build the USF program... Great news.

What lesson should a lot of corporate wall street people take a lesson from Ant Henry?
USF football helped Henry to earn his millions from the NFL. Can the same be said of USF grads on Wall Street
Kudos to Ant Henry.

Way to go Ant... You've made this former teammate and alum proud. Hopefully someday, more of us will enjoy the successes you have had and will be able to make a difference at the University of South Florida in similar fashion. Even though I'm in Arizona, I will wear my autographed Cowboys Henry jersey in your honor to the Super Bowl party I'm heading out too... The heck with the Cards and Steelers! Go Ant! Go Cowboys! And saving the best for last... Go Bulls!

There is no way Demi thompson is 6'4....maybe he's 6'2 at best

Wow - A big Thank-you to Ant. I am going to guess here but when a guy does something like this I doubt this is the only contribution he has done. There are alot of corporate wall street people that could take a lesson from Ant. These are the stories that should be front page news. Again, a big thank-you to Ant and his family.

Oops, and Anthony Henry is awesome! I hope they put his donation to good use and this is a sign of things to come.

good stuff, I agree about McKenzie. For some reason he's vastly underrated, even by a lot of our fans. He was near the top in tackles for 3 straight years on 2 different teams.
Posted by: Windbane | February 01, 2009 at 01:03 AM
that's how USF athletics gets ahead by getting more guys to the NFL, NBA, and MLB. Slowly some will give back in a variety of ways. Glad to see Anthony lead the way. Hopefully it will be things to follow.
I get the feeling from his play in the scout bowl McKenzie should be a top 3 round pick and be another quality NFL player for the Bulls.

All class.

Got the chance to meet Henry at Bulls Outfitters on Wednesday afternoon along with some other former USF players on NFL rosters. Seemed like a really great guy. Thanks for the donation Anthony!
