Q&A with Joe Dumars: Just another USF dad

Dumars_100 NBA great and Pistons president of basketball operations Joe Dumars is on hand for Wednesday night's Louisville-USF game -- he's scouting potential future Pistons, but he also is the father of USF signee Jordan Dumars, a 6-foot-6 guard who will play for Stan Heath next season.

Dumars was nice enough to talk for a few minutes before Wednesday's game, and here's a quick transcript:

GA: Tell me how quickly you've become a USF fan since Jordan committed to the Bulls last summer.

JD: I'm probably like most parents. As soon as your kid decides where he's going to go to school, you instantaneously become a big fan of that school. I've got my caps and T-shirts, and I wear my USF stuff up in Michigan all the time. They all know where he's going to school up there.

GA: Stan's got two Michigan kids coming in now, with Anthony Crater from Flint joining the team after transferring from Ohio State.

JD: I know Anthony, and he's an excellent player. (He and Jordan) have played against each other, and I've seen those guys going up against each other for a while. There's kind of a Michigan pipeline going here now.

GA: Have you been here to the Sun Dome before tonight?

JD: I played here about 19 years ago. We had an exhibition here when I was playing for Detroit, late 80s, I think we played the Rockets.

GA: You remember how you played?

JD: I don't remember. NBA exhibition games are not what you really remember.

GA: How much does it help Jordan to have his college decision out of the way so he can just play and enjoy being a high school senior?

JD: He's really enjoying his senior year of high school. He's playing on a great team. They're ranked seventh in the nation.  It's a great time in a kid's life. Getting the decision-making process out of the way, I told him to concentrate on enjoying his senior year, getting better as a basketball player and preparing himself for the next level.

Dumars isn't here. He just talked to us five months ago. Sorry if you were hoping for a response from him ...

Have you thought about a trade that could bring Anthony Randolph & or Andris Bedrins to Detroit. I would give up anything to get those 2 guys, Mainly Randolph. He's going to be a top 10 player.
