Four seniors from last year's USF team are now linked with NFL teams, as guard Matt Huners has signed a free-agent contract with the San Francisco 49ers after going undrafted this weekend.
Huners, who played primarily guard at USF, bouncing back and playing well after knee surgery in spring 2007, will get a look at left guard with the 49ers, who did not select an offensive lineman in the draft this weekend. Huners said he also strongly considered the Chiefs -- who signed Bulls receiver Taurus Johnson -- but opted for the 49ers after talking with their offensive line coach and being assured he'd have a fair chance to make the roster. He'll fly out for their rookie mini-camp on Thursday.
To recap, it's linebacker Tyrone McKenzie drafted in the third round by the Patriots, with offensive lineman Ryan Schmidt going to the Titans, Johnson to the Chiefs and Huners to the 49ers. More to come ...
