Wesley Chapel offensive lineman Kamran Joyer is expected to sign with Louisville on Thursday, his father said Wednesday night, stating that Louisville doesn't have a problem with the academic issues that kept him from being admitted into USF last month.
Jack Joyer said his son's transcripts were flagged because grades were changed during Kamran's senior year, in part because of four courses that were retaken as part of a "grade forgiveness" program. He said Wesley Chapel principal Andrew Frelick assured the NCAA in writing that the changes made were legitimate, and after that, his son was cleared by the NCAA Clearinghouse.
"The NCAA looked through everything," Joyer said. "They put him on hold, they did all their work on it, and then they cleared it."
Frelick could not be reached for comment Wednesday night. Joyer, who signed with USF in February but had not been accepted by a school committee that evaluates incoming athletes, was at Louisville on Wednesday for an official campus visit, and his father said he should sign with the Cardinals on Thursday.
We'll have more on this story Thursday ...

Times sportswriter Greg Auman, who covers USF, will post news and thoughts on the Bulletin and we invite your participation in the comments area.
USF does allow "grade foregiveness"--a student can re-take up to three classes and have the new grade replace the old one.

TribFan ... talked to several people Thursday about Joyer. No news on where he's headed next, and we may have more on the academic issues next week. Thanks for checking though ...

Greg,
You promised more on this today but nada! Has your sole source, Jack Joyer, suddenly gone quiet?
Scooped again!

Chalko,
Funny that you can even comment about cheating when your head coach has already been busted for that in the past.

It looks as if someone is a little upset about not being able to compete with usf--hint hint.....CHALKO!

talk about academic committee chalko, they must not teach you how to spell over at ucf because its joyer not joyner. what an idiot, go mingle with your other dumb ucf fans and stop trolling over here on the usf website.

Reality, you want reality. If Joyner doesn't belong in college neither does half of USF's roster. Thanks to that same USF academic committee most of your guys are playing football and not cleaning toilets!

There was never a grade forgiveness in HS. You could retake a class and the average of the two grades would be your final grade. I had a couple friends that did that because they had a spot for an extra class going into their senior year.

there is actually a grade forgiveness program that exists in college, but in high school (where you can pass a class with flying colors), I doubt that there is such a program. It's sad that our student-athletes do not take more pride in academics. Aren't they sick of being looked at as "dumb athletes"? In this case, I guess not!

Reality... why is the NCAA a joke? What more can they do if the principal at the school wrote a letter saying it was legit? This is exactly why the academic committee at USF is a good idea. It's able to dig deeper and deny admission even if it's not based on hard evidence whereas the NCAA has to have firm evidence that would stand up in court when the kid's family sues. This story says more about Louisville's desperation than anything. I'm glad USF is denying these type of academic risks because I don't want my USF degree to lose value if it appears we just hand them out to anyone who can play football. I want to win just as much as everyone but you have to at least TRY to be a student. It looks like this kid relied on people to grease him through rather than try to actually LEARN anything. I'm not worried about seeing him on the field down the road because the NCAA has progress toward degree requirements that will continue to weed people out who have no business being in college if they're not there to learn something.

I'd have been at an Ivy League school with a "grade forgiveness program."
That's ridiculous. Good riddance, and way to work the system, Joyer family.
Has Louisville offered you a "grade forgiveness program" as well?
UL Provost: Kamran, you posted STRAIGHT "Fs" this semester.
Joyer: Yeah, so what are you gonna' do about it?
UL Provost: Well fortunately for you and Coach Kragthorpe, we have a little thing we like to call the "grade forgiveness program" here at this fine institution.
Joyer: Aww, yeah...I know all about that. I never did one homework assignment in high school and ended up graduating with honors.
UL: Kamran, I think this is the beginning of a BEAUTIFUL relationship.

"Grade forgiveness program," eh?
Yeah, I'm sorry, but that certainly DOES sound bogus. I know I'm in the minority here, but I think the university did the right thing in this case.

I think this is a case where the academic committee may have done the right thing. Personally, I still don't like the timing of their decisions, as they should be proactive in the process so that these kids have other opportunities. However, it looks like Kamran will be able to go elsewhere.
What does this say about the academics at our peers in the BE?

The only sad thing is that the kid didn't care about academics and Pasco county and his school just changed his grades. I read that the NCAA is investigating. NINE grades changed in his senior year? YEA right, everything is above board. I don't want this kind of athlete at USF. He is definitely not a student! We'll be fine without him.

That's sad to hear...

What a JOKE the NCAA is!
Great Job USF Academic Comittee. You guys are earning your keep!
This kid does not belong in college.
Wesley Chapel High School should be wiped off the face of the earth. your diplomas are WORTHLESS.
