By my count, USF's football game at Florida State on Sept. 26 is still a full 72 days away, but the Bulls are already getting into one of the fun aspects of a big in-state game: T-shirt trash talk.
The Twitter.com page of the USF Bookstore had a Twitpic on Thursday, saying "Never too early for a little t-shirt trash talk." The pic -- seen on the left -- shows a green Bulls T-shirt that says "Sorry, Florida State: Crying Isn't A Sport."
I'm not even entirely sure what that means -- I'm guessing it's a nod to FSU appealing its NCAA penalty, which included coach Bobby Bowden being stripped of wins that have been vacated.
The shirt is $20. Behave yourself in the comments, and I'm talking to both sides of this ...

Times sportswriter Greg Auman, who covers USF, will post news and thoughts on the Bulletin and we invite your participation in the comments area.
David Weber are you joking. Better luck next year.

Like it really matters what the USF bookstore prints. This is coming from a college football team that doesn't even have their own stadium. You have to earn respect, USF...you can't print it on a piece of cotton.

I've been a college football fanatic for over 2 decades and I have trouble remembering that South Florida even has a football team. This lame T-shirt is not likely to change that.

Correction to my previous post.
WKU is scheduled to play USF on 25 September 2010 at Raymond James Stadium. There was nothing in my post that suggested it referred specifically to the 2009 schedule.

However unintended, I like to see that "Balls State" made it through the blog filter. You guys like arguing more than I do, and as a general rule, I like arguing.

Snrub,
WKU is scheduled to play USF on 25 September 2010 Actually, Western Kentucky is an away game. There was nothing in my post that suggested it referred specifically to the 2009 schedule. Reading Comprehension: Mr Srnub - Final Grade "F"
The Balls States was correct as used in this case, however "the Western Kentuckys" should have been the Western Kentuckies and "the Stonybrooks should have been the Stony Brooks.
If you are going to correct the spelling or grammar or content of other posters, please know what you are doing before engaging your keyboard..

Greg, I have heard from very unreliable sources that FSU is planning a "white out" for our game with them. Is there any truth to that? If so, I hope that's the game the Bulls come out in the white helmets with white jerseys and pants. That's why I voted for FSU in this poll from GoUSFBulls.com.
Posted by: Jerome | July 20, 2009 at 09:39 AM
Actually, Western Kentucky is an away game. And it's Ball State, not states.

Unless da Bulls become the Best of the Least, they can't be the Best of the Best no matter who dey play!
Posted by: Walla Walla Bing Bang | July 20, 2009 at 07:31 AM
Walla Walla DING DONG, you act like USF is the ONLY school to play d-1aa opponents at home. Probably EVERY MAJOR SCHOOL if not all bring in a 1aa team. UF is the defending NC and they play Charlston Southern at home, so your theory is wrong. You don't play the best teams you don't get better. You don't win any championships, BE or otherwise.
Posted by: Steve O'Neal | July 20, 2009 at 07:09 AM
Walla... still a ding dong...
There is no play off system so basically even if you win the Big East, the perception is, you are still not the best... You are only the best when you beat the #1 team...
Anyway it is time to move on...talk about something else...
Posted by: Bulliever | July 19, 2009 at 10:58 PM
"In order to call your team the best, you have to play the best...so bring it on!" bulliever
No to call your team the best you have to win the BIG EAST. Win the BE and we get to play with the big dogs, otherwise sit back and enjoy watching the Woffords, the Stonybrooks, the Ball States and the Western Kentuckys of the world at playing a the RJ.
Posted by: Walla Walla Bing Bang | July 19, 2009 at 10:20 PM
*yawn* Call me when they can win a Big East championship. USF's motto should be "Hey, remember that one time when we were ranked #2 for 1 week?"
Posted by: Andrew | July 19, 2009 at 09:06 PM
Yes. I mostly stopped going to TBO after I stumbled across Greg's blog. It's amazing, and usually has fresh news. I even like the links to other sites with relevant material. I will likely visit McM's site when season starts, since I enjoy competing in his weekly predictions.
True love is going to the USF-WVU game in Morgantown last December, in the snow (20s...and I've a native Floridian, so it was brutal). WVU fans are mostly cool, except for some student pelting our team & cheerleaders with snow/ice balls...cops ran a lot of them out). We've been to the last 4...this year is the tie breaker, and we'll be there in competing jersey. Hope my USF brothers & sisters will be cool.
Posted by: JupiterBull | July 19, 2009 at 08:01 PM
Jupiterbull, That's TRUE LOVE!!! I saw your earlier post and I'm going to check it out, Thanks. Was that you on the tbo blog about Bonani today?
Posted by: Steve O'Neal | July 19, 2009 at 06:43 PM
100% agree on all counts. I don't know if you saw my earlier post, but I found a place that will put your name on a USF jersey (you pick the #). I got one for me (and...hold your tomatoes, a WVU one for my wife, she's a WV native). It was under $70, and it got here in a week. A nice way to show our spirit (BTW, she only wears the WVU gear to the WVU-USF game...otherwise, she's a Bulls fan. We've been to the last 4 USF-WVU games. Some good, some not so good).
Now...let's play ball. Beat FSU, UM and win the Big East, and the big boys will take us on.
Posted by: JupiterBull | July 19, 2009 at 06:09 PM
Hi JupiterBull,
The Big East Bowl affiliations are not that great, and since we won't be seeing a playoff system at least for a while, I just would love to see our team play in some great OC games...
I also get sick of hearing the "Big Least"... but it is hard to prove on paper that the conference is not a joke. The Big East really needs to play the top teams in each of the BCS conferences.
I am not saying that USF is "all that" either I just want USF to have the opportunities to play in some great games...
And to get back on topic...I do not believe their should be any trash talking, unless you can back up what you say...
Posted by: Bulliever | July 19, 2009 at 04:32 PM
Bulliever, you originally stated that BCS teams wouldn't Big East teams. That was my point, and others chimed in with reasons why some won't. I am a huge USF fan. Went to 5 road games last year (WVU, UCF, FIU, NC St and the Bowl Game...ok, maybe not really a road game!). So I'm thrilled we're taking on the big boys, but until we have some impressive bowl wins or beat FSU/UM, I don't expect other teams to come to Tampa (better attendance will help...so hopefully we fill seats this year).
You did a great job showing the recent game history. Good reading. Hopefully the Big East wins some key OOC games, and we build our rep...with the Bulls on top of course!

What a weak a** shirt! GO NOLES
Posted by: nole girl 07 | July 19, 2009 at 03:41 PM
Walla Ding Dong,
In order to call your team the best, you have to play the best...so bring it on!
Teams only get better and have great reputations when they do not back down.
But, it is obvious you are one of those people who talk smack, but won't back it up. LOL!
Posted by: Bulliever | July 19, 2009 at 03:06 PM
"With that said, it looks like the ACC is the ONLY BCS conference to step up to the plate and play USF..."
Step up to the plate..ROTFLMAO
You talk like playing USF would a feather in the cap for premier programs like the Longhorns, the Sooners, the Buckeyes, aon others..put down the crackpipe, take off the green goggles, and smell the roses. USF is a team that hasn't won a single championship.
The Gators don't need to play the Bulls in Tampa so why should they...FSU was desperate to fill a hole in their schedule this year or they wouldn't have even given us the time of day.
Speaking of the Big 12, Colorado is playing at Morgantown this year..West Virginia is a Big East team that has actually won the BE and BCS bowl games.
Posted by: Walla Walla Bing Bang | July 19, 2009 at 02:30 PM
Walla Walla... You're a ding dong,
I rarely say anything that is
unsubstantiated...
So, here is some info for you as it
pertains to USF since being in the Big East Conference in 2005:
Kansas 2006 and 2008 (home and home
series) but that = ONE (1) team in the Big 12....
It would be great if we could play,
Texas, rematch with OK, Missouri and Nebraska.
Penn State 2005 = 1 team for Big 10 (NOT a home in home series) Although, there are 2 teams in the Big 10 scheduled in the future...
Michigan State 2013 and 2017 (home and
home series)
Indiana 2015 and 2016 (home and home
series)But, are we really going to get any respect by playing these 2 teams... It is not like we are playing Michigan, OSU or Penn State...
Miami 2005
NC 2006 and 2007 (home and home series), NC State 2008 and a future date 2014 (home and home series) FSU this year future 2012 (home and home
series)
Mia this year- 2013 (home and home
series)
4 teams in the ACC are playing us and ALL of them home and home series...
We are definitely playing the Best in the ACC Conference here.
Auburn 2007 = 1 team in the SEC
(And a one hit wonder... they won't play us here in TPA and probably not again on their turf since we already beat them)...
Future: Florida 2010 and 2015 (both at
UF... they also refuse to play us here in TPA)... It would be great to play LSU, Georgia and have a re-match with USC.
And then there is Notre Shame... 2011
(they too, refuse to play a home and home series)
With that said, it looks like the ACC is the ONLY BCS conference to step up to the plate and play USF... And last time I checked the Big 12 and PAC 10 are not calling us asking for any home and home series and there is nothing scheduled with them...
Posted by: Bulliever | July 19, 2009 at 11:58 AM
Bulliever...you ought to spend more time learning about BE football and Bulls football before opening your pie hole and commenting about it.
Kansas(Big 12) played the Bulls (BEast) in a home and away series in 2006 (Memorial Stadium, Lawrence) and 2008 (RJS, Tampa).
RIP Coach Jack Mitchell
Posted by: Walla Walla Bing Bang | July 18, 2009 at 08:48 PM
Bulliever, the Big 12 has played several Big East teams, including us.
And we played Auburn (one of our biggest wins). WVU played Auburn as well. Sometimes it's hard for those BCS schools to get OOC games v. other BCS teams. Look at our terrible first 3 games.
Posted by: JupiterBull | July 18, 2009 at 07:37 PM
The best swagger should be us pumping up our program, not trashing theirs. Somethings about the Bulls stampeding into Nole territory...
Or a Bull charging the Seminole with his spear in hand (maybe wearing shoes with the price tags still attached...KIDDING!!!).
Posted by: JupiterBull | July 18, 2009 at 07:32 PM
JoeB...
That is some great stuff...
The Big East struggles to get teams to play us, so why not antagonize the Big 10 (esp. Joe Pa), the Pac 10 and SEC....
The ACC is the only BCS conference who has stepped up to play our Big East teams, so far....
Posted by: Bulliever | July 18, 2009 at 05:22 PM
Pretty weak. Where's the creativity? How about something like, you can't dodge us anymore type stuff.

The dude is a Pike... Come on now, he's obviously a loser. His mommy and daddy paid a ton of money for this loser to have some friends and a sense of belonging. They also probably paid for his admittance to UF because he's obviously an idiot.
How come I back off for the most part and everyone else is getting on Stevo? Leave my friend alone!
Posted by: Chalko | July 18, 2009 at 10:46 AM
Enough, Bulls fans. Don't let the Noles, Gator or Canes fans bait us. The key will be to win...nothing shuts up people more than a W (with the possible exception of Chalko, which must be Croatian for "slow learner".)
Posted by: JupiterBull | July 18, 2009 at 10:19 AM
UFpike, I just had my 1st cup of coffee and realized that you were telling me to get my panties whatever, not asking a question. My most sincere apologies for misunderstanding your little commandment! Again they were never in a wad/bunch, but thanks anyway for stopping by our blog and giving me such divine, stellar direction. GO BULLS!
Posted by: Steve O'Neal | July 18, 2009 at 07:40 AM
Along with the spelling error, I believe the saying goes something like....got your panties in a wad. I suppose you could substitute bunch for wad. But if getting your panties IN a wad/bunch means someone is upset, does getting them out of a wad/bunch mean someone is not upset? That would be the case with my response to Bullseye. Not upset, more amused, kinda like your post. Thanks for the laugh! GO BULLS!

Nice UFPike... pantys?....
Usually I am the last one to correct spelling or grammar, but when you are smack talking... best to do it with some intelligence!!
You have to drop the y and add ie...DUH. Time to go back to your beer bong... or better yet, maybe you can go haze one of your pledges...
Posted by: Bulliever | July 18, 2009 at 01:03 AM
Steve O'neal, get your pantys out of a bunch. It will be fun watching the nolies kick your tails this year. Be sure to wear those silly T shirts too!

Bullseye, calling me an idiot while you can't even COPY my name correctly and I'm thinking that you meant you'RE as in you are. Pretty impressive! Did you read my 1st post? I CHEER my team, no trash talking at the game. Did you see the part about being a good sport, win or lose? You KNOW for a fact that the posters; homeless need clothes, better than you, nitro and Steve O'Neals computer are NOT NOLES fans? I don't know, but it's a safe bet that they aren't USF fans and could be FSU fans. I noted that it was fsu and others like canes and gators. What is wrong with pointing out that most all schools have vendors that make up stupid T-shirts? Since you didn't take the time to read my other posts, where I called no one an "idiot" or any other names..........I guess that would make you the IDIOT! I have respect for the 'noles, but I'm not going to kiss their behinds like you. One last thing, follow your own advice and save your trash talking with the canes fans until the game! Geez, what a weenie! Good night and GOOOOOO BULLS!
Posted by: Steve O'Neal | July 17, 2009 at 09:51 PM
Steve Oneil your an idiot, there haven't been any noles fans talking trash. Save your trash talk for the game, so far, I've seen more stupidity from UF fans and we aren't even playing them this year.
Off Target, thats a fitting name a cane has no business talking about class...Period!
Posted by: bullseye | July 17, 2009 at 09:00 PM
Yeah that's right, all the posts are directed at me! I guess USFMikeb took the "bait" also. I remember Greg asking everyone to be civil. So far the ones making the ugly remarks and calling names is the noles and others, not USF fans. Most all the USF fans have displayed class and have stated that they don't like the T-shirt. So what again was that classy reference to being gay? The T-shirt isn't very good even if it is true! Please, please don't take my dadgum wins away! WAH WAH WAH! GO BULLS!

Does anyone know when they'll set game time? I'm trying to decide how many nights I'll need to stay in Tally, and the rooms are filling fast.
Posted by: JupiterBull | July 17, 2009 at 04:27 PM
Bullseye, are you familiar with how Fla. State built itself? By playing some tough road games in the 70s, losing the Orange Bowl a few times, then benefiting from UF's probation in 1985. After that they joined the ACC out of fear of joining the SEC. Bobby Bowden: "Joining the SEC is like committing suicide". Look that one up. So they have tons of wins in the 90s over the Dukes, NC State's and Wake's of the world.
FSU and class do not go in the same sentence for many reasons. One, the school has none and two, the players cheat in the classes they take.
Now the record is set straight. Go Canes!
Posted by: Off Target | July 17, 2009 at 04:11 PM
If you wear a USF teeshirt to the game and the locals turn really hostile on you, you can wear the shirt inside-out and it will turn into an FSU shirt.
Posted by: Flash | July 17, 2009 at 04:06 PM
You know a bunch of fat chics will be wearing the shirt up to the nasty.
Posted by: Chalko | July 17, 2009 at 03:57 PM
Please dont buy this shirt and wear it up to FSU. They are a class program and we should build our rep the same way. I am stoked for this game, Tallahasse will be off the chain!

"Walla Walla, I don't think that USF actually reviews each individual use of their logo, their licensing representative does that."
It amounts to the same thing.

Pretty weak shirt. Does it say No Fear on the back? USF is the king of cheese.
Posted by: Chalko | July 17, 2009 at 03:25 PM
Didn't finish my thought- I think the shirts go too far just because I think all sports merchandising has gone too far. There's no need to shell out $20 to show that you REALLY want to beat FSU.
