Turns out it wasn't even close. According to the Tampa Sports Authority, the actual attendance for the Bucs' 28-21 loss to the Carolina Panthers on Sunday was 42,847, meaning that USF drew 12,226 more fans to Raymond James Stadium on Thursday night.
The Bucs announced an attendance of 62,422 on Sunday, based on the number of tickets distributed; USF announced an attendance of 63,976 on Thursday by the same method. If you're doing the math, that means nearly 20,000 fans had tickets for the Bucs-Panthers game but opted not to attend ...
There's only one more weekend this season when both team are at home -- USF plays host to Louisville on Nov. 21, with the Bucs hosting the high-scoring New Orleans Saints the next day. If the Bulls can outdraw the Bucs that weekend, it'll be even more impressive ...
-- Congrats to frequent commenter David Weber for posting this blog's 40,000th comment this morning. That's a commendable amount of conversation on here in a little over four years -- thanks to you guys for making this an active and interactive blog ...

Times sportswriter Greg Auman, who covers USF, will post news and thoughts on the Bulletin and we invite your participation in the comments area.
Well that tmakes perfect sense to me dude!

USF has a tough road ahead of them. But if we win out, I think we can be ranked top 5.

We play in the Glazer's stadium. They happen to decorate it with Bucs stuff. We don't bash the Bucs as we don't beat up on the hapless. The Bucs will come back, not sure if a new coach is needed or if this is to be expected because of what Gruden did not do. As for the Bulls, yep we are still building, but you got to admit on a pace not ever seen. It took how many years for UCF to jump to 1A?
Another Bill jumped in so I added B. to the end.

The attendance argument is meaningless considering yall had to bribe people to come to the game....free tix or $10 dollar tix??? really??? i think my former high school costs more than that....usf is still building...not there yet boys....and one more thing....do not bash the Bucs...after all, you play in their stadium.

Shame about the Times requiring people to post without signing up. That will cripple comments for a little bit.

I'm both a USF and Bucs fan - it's always easier to be a fan for a winner - I still have faith my Bucs will turn their program around. Hope the Bulls are here to stay!! Go BULLS--Beat PITT!

KB, I think it's a safe bet USF will outdraw the Tuskers. If I'm guessing, I'd say USF will quadruple the Tuskers in announced attendance. (I don't think we'll be getting an actual crowd figure from the UFL folks.)

Greg,
Will USF outdraw the Tuskers game on the same night over at the Trop?
Posted by: KB | October 19, 2009 at 11:56 AM
So at the current rate, how long will it be until this blog outdraws the Bucs? A week?
I've always thought that USF had a tremendous amount of potential not only as a football team, but as a brand. To outdraw an NFL team in their own stadium is pretty amazing. The WVU and Miami games might have a similar result.

Does anyone know if the USF-Pitt game will be televised in the Orlando area?
GO BULLS !!!

PITT game is on ESPN Gameplan package.

I suppose software isn't the right word there. I have to think Steve Stacy has the most haikus (haiku?) in the history of this blog.
Posted by: G.A. | October 19, 2009 at 11:09 AM
GA,
What does your software say about haikus???
Posted by: Steve Stacy | October 19, 2009 at 11:08 AM
I think, even if we lose the Pitt game, WVU will be rock'n... A night game the night before Halloween and all.
Posted by: werbito | October 19, 2009 at 10:58 AM
GA, and word on ticket sales for WVU? I've got mine, and I'm hoping USF fans will be TRUE fans, and come to the games, whether we're 5-1 or 1-5. If I lived in Tampa, I'd have season tickets...even if I had to give some away if I had conflicts.
I'd like to see us stuff RayJay, and I'd bet it'll be close to sell out...since WVU will bring the most visiting fans each year. I expect them to bring plenty of blue (guessing we'll be green again...I will).
Hopefully CJL & team will shake this off, learn from it, and be ready for a very talented Pitt offense. They'll be 7 pt favorites...

You win a much-coveted shoutout on the blog. Dave, our software has you with 509 comments, dating back to Feb. 2007.

I'm assuming I don't win anything special, huh?
I wonder how many comments belong to me. I probably don't want to know. It has to be at least 1,000 (more than 3 years of comments, probably about 300 comments a year).

My understanding was that it was going to be on Ch. 28 (WFTS) but I haven't got that confirmed yet ...
Posted by: G.A. | October 18, 2009 at 07:24 PM
Greg,
Will the Pitt game be televised on 28 or Brighthouse?
Thanks, Bill

Gotta give kudos to USF for being able to market to this area and get that many people to buy tickets and attend on a Thursday night.
