How many teams in college football do you think can boast two wins against ranked opponents this season?
USF, of course, joined that group by beating No. 20 West Virginia on Friday night, adding that to their win over then-No. 18 Florida State last month.
How many other teams fall into that category? Just seven others, and all seven of them are ranked in the top 20. No. 2 Alabama and No. 4 Southern Cal enter the day undefeated with three wins against ranked teams. Oregon, which faces USC tonight, has two wins against ranked teams.
Miami, currently trailing Wake Forest 17-7, has three wins against ranked teams, and ACC rivals Virginia Tech and Georgia Tech have two each.
UPDATE: After Texas' win Saturday night against Oklahoma State, the Longhorns make it eight teams.
If you're wondering, there are eight teams in the current Associated Press top 25 who haven't beaten a ranked team this season. No. 12 Penn State, No. 16 Pittsburgh, No. 19 Utah, No. 20 West Virginia and No. 23 Arizona haven't even faced a ranked team yet, while No. 17 Ohio State, No. 24 Mississippi and No. 25 Notre Dame lost their only games against ranked teams.

Times sportswriter Greg Auman, who covers USF, will post news and thoughts on the Bulletin and we invite your participation in the comments area.
Where are the Gators?

Are there? I don't see any. Hard to think they'd spend any money at all on the SPTimes (if you've been reading the paper for the last decade [or even just this morning], you'd know what I mean).

That's pretty interesting. A lot of the Also Receiving Votes cohort fell this week, in addition to a few 20-somethings. Auburn beat Ole Miss, so they're in, but Clemson played Coastal Carolina. I don't see how Clemson could be ranked ahead of us- they have a terrible loss to Maryland while our losses were to two outstanding teams. BYU will probably be ranked again, though I'm not exactly sure why. OK State should fall significantly- they aren't the same without Dez Bryant. We have equal records, and losses to similar rankings- they've lost to Houston and Texas. But their only win of note was home against Georgia, which at this point, is not better than our win at FSU. Our win over WVU is the best for either school. Of course, voters won't switch us, but they should if they are objective in any capacity.
It's a good thing for us that Miami held on against Wake- that gives us a chance to beat 3 ranked teams.
How many other teams will have played 5 ranked opponents this year? We have to be near the top in that category.

Why are there so many damn Scientology ads on the blog?

Hey GA,
With Notre Dame becoming bowl eligible and possibly having >8 wins, does it seem that the gator bowl will take them despite a one or two loss Pitt or Cincy? How do think this will affect the BE bowl lineup with "Our Lady" and their weak schedule?

Thanks for the update GA, I didn't notice Genus back the second half, just remembered him going down. Hopefully Mitchell is ready for Miami. It would be nice to have him for Rutgers, but I know high ankle sprains can be pretty bad.

12 days till Rutgers. Heal up, plan well adn beat an improving Rutgers team. It'll be loud & ugly...wish I could make it. I've made the FSU & WVU games, and loved every minute (OK, maybe not the opening WVU drive!).

Leavitt didn't return calls today, so no injury updates.
Genus came back and played the entire second half, so I have to think he's fine.
I think Wilson is fine as well.
Mitchell said he has a high ankle sprain and had a boot on his left foot and was walking with crutches after the game. Seems unlikely he could recover enough to be effective against Rutgers.
Nate Allen has a hip pointer, but says he'll be fine for Rutgers. Waiting to hear on other injured players.

Good post-game stories, I was just wondering if we could get a story with some injury updates...how is Wilson, Mitchell, Genus, a few of the others who got banged up?

We can always talk about the early rankings and how the team currently is not ranked. But USF has a harder schedule than Rutgers. So we should stay above them. Not sure if we will hit the 25 spot but we should get some points this week. Last week NONE.

Shouldn't be--we should be above Rutgers, I'd think. I'd think we should squeak into the top-25. By the way, FSU won another, helping us out, as did Miami.

Despite the fact that the Bulls have beaten 2 ranked teams, in addition to losing their only 2 games to ranked teams, voters will still not rank them this week. Only after a convincing win against Rutgers will the voters put USF back in, perhaps. I also would not be surprised if Rutgers is ranked higher than the Bulls this week.

Turd,
I know that it is very debatable how good FSU is this year but every Miami fan you ask they say that Miami beat a ranked FSU team but when they talk about the USF win versus FSU then the story changes and everyone says FSU is horrible this year. The fact is going into the FSU game they were ranked and everybody was amazed by their offense and we shut them down. If our secondary can play like they did last night we should be ok.
GO BULLS !!!

I know FSU technically counts as a win versus a ranked team, but c'mon...
