I don't fly out to New Jersey until early in the morning, but we already have a link to our preview story for Thursday's newspaper, looking at the feud between USF and Rutgers that goes back to before the two teams played their first game. Here's our scouting report, too.
From billboards to poaching opponents off the other team's schedule, there's been no shortage of sparks back and forth between the two teams, not to mention three big losses for the Bulls against the Scarlet Knights.
Now the Bulls return to the field where they fell from No. 2 in the national rankings two years ago, with another Thursday night game on ESPN that affords USF a chance at avenging that loss, as well as a 49-16 shellacking in Tampa last season. Does all that motivation add up to a win for USF, or another disappointing loss?

Times sportswriter Greg Auman, who covers USF, will post news and thoughts on the Bulletin and we invite your participation in the comments area.
Turd, I tried to check your link, but it asks for an id & password. Any clue, or do I need to join typePad, whatever that is?

When your in the mud you need a Ford to get you through the mud.
Long ball may be easier since the receivers can be very open if the DB falls.
Short passes are more difficult as it requires more concentration on how to deliver the ball, up or straight. Last nano second decision to lob or rifle with just a little pepper.
We have to have faith that the guys can do it.

Time for Mo to show he's a mudder. Misdirection plays & play action could work big, too...but we rarely do either.
Nasty weather favors RUs...they have that run game.
Posted by: Jupiter Bull | November 12, 2009 at 01:58 PM
The rain and wind are going to make the longer passes more difficult. Let's hope we have some other passing (and running) options.
Posted by: Ken | November 12, 2009 at 01:28 PM
USF fans want this bad, but RU fans need this to validate themselves. When the game's over, win or lose, we don't have to wake up in Jersey every night.
Let's shut these guys up for at least a year by playing Bulls football. They will try to trick BJ by masking coverage & assigning a spy to minimize the scrambles. Canales better have a plan to defeat that, including short passes & draws.
We can do the same thing to Savage. Show him lots of looks, blitz from unusual places and hit him HARD & OFTEN.
Only a few sad RU fans have posted on GA's blog now, but if they win, GA's blog will look like the floor of a New Jersey diner's kitchen: swarmed by nasty cockroaches, just overwhelming us till they pass out on their keyboards.
CLJ...time to show the world you can coach in the BEast, and have our guys prepped & pumped. GO BULLS!

I disagree, I've got UConn as a strong win possibility for USF. Of course, as with any week of USF football, it depends which team shows up to play - the one that plays good football or the one that plays bad football. "Any Given Saturday" principle applies to USF more than some other football teams...
Posted by: USFMikeB | November 12, 2009 at 12:41 PM
FYI -
We are going to lose to UConn....

USF '70 has it covered. I'm a little north in Newark right now, but it's overcast and drizzly. There's a pretty steady 30 percent chance of rain rest of the day, so the field should be pretty wet even if it's not raining tonight.
Posted by: G.A. | November 12, 2009 at 12:06 PM
Bad weather will keep the fans out of the game.

I like Turd gone wild blogging about bull

gametime weather report is 47...40% chance of showers...very windy 20mph

G.A. Need a weather report, understand forecast is for wet and very windy.Doesn't sound good for the Bulls. (Another variable Leavitt won't be able to adjust for.)

I feel like the lead up to tonight's game should have a great video montage of the SNL sketches of Gov. Patterson complaining about the cesspool that is New Jersey.
Posted by: Blake | November 12, 2009 at 11:13 AM
My take on tonight's game is simple, Will the Bulls finally crack this nut? they have yet to why? GS vs CJL, well GS has found a way to beat us every time even with a less talented team.
A couple weeks ago I was critical of BJ's play, I went to the WV game and I say a great BJ. But with that said I did see a flaw in BJ's game, the short touch pass, if GS can take away the long ball which is BJ's strength, in fact that is the problem with his short pass game he throws hard.
I'm hopeful that BJ keeps growing as a QB, I was impressed 2 weeks ago, I hope someone is working with him on his short game, if he masters that HE will be pretty much unstoppable.
GO BULLS!!!!!!!!!

It's funny, most Rutgers fans would put UConn, Syracuse, Pitt, Cincy, and WVU ahead of USF for most hated team. We're indifferent because we've had our foot on your collective necks for the last three years.
Prediction - BJ throws 4 INTs as RU pastes, spanks, humiliates USF yet again. Knights Rule!

Turd, I hope your blog is such a huge success that is causes traffic problems for the entire world wide web.
I can see the headline, 'Turd Clogs the Internet'.
I know it's lame but I had to say it.

Turd, why don't you send the info to that other paper. Every time I check there is only 1 or 2 comments. It is almost a step up to the mike and then leave. Now, how are you going to harrass the others for spelling mistakes when you altered the words used for your blog title?

kc,
Great article on Kion. I hope he can stay out of trouble and keep working hard. I think he has a great future in the NFL with his physical traits, abilities, and work ethic.

Wait a second--are you using Greg's blog to advertise a competitor?
Posted by: Ken | November 12, 2009 at 05:16 AM
--------
Heh-heh....not so much a "competitor" as a "complement" to Greg's stupendous work here. O'Neal & Harn just wouldn't stop begging me to start this blog, so I acquiesced.

Enjoy the game--hope it is a glorious Bulls victory, and in the unlikely event of a drubbing, shellacking, trouncing, or licking that it goes in the Bulls favor.

"Turd's Wurld" that is...I need to learn how to spell the title of my own blog.
Posted by: Turd Ferguson | November 11, 2009 at 11:45 PM
I'll be checking in periodically from the road tomorrow, and from the bleachers tomorrow night on the ol' iPhone. I don't think it will like the live chat applet, but my wonderful friends here who all love me so will be thrilled to know I have launched "Turd's World," the newest and most cantankerous Bulls blog on the web.
http://turdferguson.typepad.com/turds-wurld/
I'll be posting photos and comments periodically tomorrow LIVE from Piscataway.

Just checked the spreads. Looks like the money favors Rutgers. USF opened a 1 pt fave, and is now the 2 pt dog.
Time to start gaining some respect by beating Rutgers on the road, in crappy weather. I'll be watching & hoping to see Turd as the guy in green, applauding in a small group of Bulls fans. GO BULLS!!!

I just hope on Thursday we give Rutgers a good "licking."
Feel free to use that one too, Greg!
Posted by: Taurean | November 11, 2009 at 10:52 PM
Trounced is good -- accurate without being too inflammatory. I don't know if Thursday will be a trouncing, either way.
Posted by: G.A. | November 11, 2009 at 10:38 PM
Try "trounced," Greg. Maybe you could use that for friday's paper after we lose.
Posted by: Tim | November 11, 2009 at 08:40 PM
I've said "drubbing" like three times and needed to mix it up. Not enough appropriate yet vivid words to describe lopsided college football victories.
Posted by: G.A. | November 11, 2009 at 07:19 PM
LoL @ the usage of "shellacking." Don't get to see that one too often.
Posted by: WYKindly | November 11, 2009 at 06:57 PM
That poaching of our game/opponent--within the conference!--should never be forgiven (of course, it shouldn't have been allowed, either, but that's another issue).
Got to make dinner--I'll read your article later, Greg, or perhaps in the morning.

RU is easy to hate, from their ugly campus to their ugly colors to their ugly foul-mouthed students. It is N. Jersey at its finest.
Go Bulls!

With all that has been said there is only one thing left to say.
.......GO BULLS........
Its party time.
