USF senior linebacker Kion Wilson, who had a key interception and 12 tackles in the Bulls' 30-19 win against then-No. 20 West Virginia, has been honored as the Big East defensive player of the week.
Wilson, who had a team-best 2.5 tackles for loss against the Mountaineers, wasn't the only Bulls player honored by the league. Redshirt freshman quarterback B.J. Daniels made the honor roll -- his three passing touchdowns, 104 rushing yards and 232 passing yards weren't apparently enough to get offensive player of the week, which went to Rutgers receiver Tim Brown, who had 162 yards and two touchdowns, including the game-winner in the final minute of the Scarlet Knights' win against Connecticut.

Times sportswriter Greg Auman, who covers USF, will post news and thoughts on the Bulletin and we invite your participation in the comments area.
Brown had an excellent game, but BJ owned the field. Every time WVU had a chance to get back in, BJ made a play with feet or arm. He threw 3 long balls that were perfect. No BJ, big difference.
QB's get the blame in losses, often. They set the pace/tone. BJ set it early with the perfect deep ball to Mitchell, and work up a crowd that was already a bit down after the WVU opening TD drive. But, no worries...BJ will win plenty of these awards, and he got what he wanted: a huge, critical win!

I thought BJ had the offensive award locked up, but it's tough to argue against Brown. He played very well, and was really clutch on the gamewinner. His speed and connection with Savage could be a problem for Murphy in two weeks.
Kion played a really good game, but he needs to hang on to the ball! He's going to have to match this production against Rutgers in order to force Savage to win the game by himself.

Kion was key for us on defense for sure, but think BJ's offensive performance was most impressive. Had to wonder why Selvie was on the sideline late in the game...just rotating fresh legs?

Turd, Joseph made a heads up play by recovering Kion's post-interception fumble.
From the stands, I saw a fair amount of Barrington in the 2nd half, and love the way he attacks. Reminds me of the Canes LB from the 90s. Hope to see more of him.
Kudos to Murphy, too. Granted, the WRs aren't quite the same as Cincy/Pitt, he did play more aggressively, and made a huge play v. Lyons on the 4th & 28 play that WVU almost converted. If he brings it in, they've got 1st & Goal from the 4, and can get within a FG with a TD/2pt.
Also interesting...I saw Pierre line up at DT next to Selvie on a few plays. Very interesting...

Kion got his stats!

We play a nickle defense, so there are only 2 LBs on the field. Wilson will be there 90% of the time...

We don't play in a nickel all the time, Orlando. There are plenty of times we're in a traditional 4-3.
Sandro...I wasn't necessarily looking out for it, but I noticed Barrington in on a few plays as well -- maybe more than I noticed. I just think he's a superior football player compared to Joseph. And it's not like Joseph has a TON of experience. He was a reserve until this season.

We play a nickle defense, so there are only 2 LBs on the field. Wilson will be there 90% of the time, so the other is between Joseph and Robinson. C-Rob is way faster, so he gets more plays against the fast offense that WVU has.

Turd,
I saw Barrington in on a lot of plays in the second half and not that much of Joseph especially on passing downs Joseph was always on the bench.
GO BULLS !!!

Congrats to Kion and BJ! BJ could have had 300+ passing yards if the receivers had not dropped so many easy catches! Running and passing for over 300 yds while beating a top 20 team seems the better offensive performance to me.

Chris Robinson had a nice game as well. But where has Sabbath Joseph gone? He was all over the field @ FSU, but has been invisible since. I know Joseph is a senior (which gives him immunity with Leavitt), but why not give Jacquain Williams or Barrington some more time? Barrington has looked fantastic when he's been in there.

Congrats, Kion. Good game.
